Hi! My name is Ian Yan. I am a composer-storyteller and musician from Hong Kong, based in New York City.
As a musical theater writer, my shows include Re-Orient (2022 NMTC Semi-Finalist), The 126th Annual Varsity Show, and currently in development: Everything’s Perfect and Ted Wants to Die.
As a theater musician, I have worked closely on Music Departments with Alex Lacamoire, Tom Kitt, Mary-Mitchell Campbell, Jennifer Nettles, and numerous other theater Broadway luminaries in a plethora of roles.
I provide a wide variety of music services, including (but not limited to) Orchestration, Arranging, Music Copying, Transcription, Piano Accompaniment Tracks, and Audition Prep/Coaching.
I am also a skilled and versatile pianist. Having played for almost 20 years, I have developed into a universal player, specialising particularly in jazz and improvised music. I also work as a freelance composer for film, TV, video games, dance, and podcasts.
I studied Music and English Literature at Columbia University, and Musical Theater writing at the Musical Creators’ Institute.
